It's always a bit nerve-wracking reccing WIPs. It's always a bit nerve-wracking reading them, for that matter. If it's something we like, we so want it to be finished and it's not always posssible. People move on or RL circumstances get in the way. However, here are five WIPs I've really enjoyed reading in 2007. I hope they will be finished, but even if they aren't, I'm still very glad to have read them.

First, a story that was begun in 2006, but last updated in March 2007. A wonderful, angsty, plotty fic by my favourite Spander writer [livejournal.com profile] shadowscast.

That Good Night S/X R.

Next a pairing that's very rare and hard to pull off. This one is very believable though, due to fabulous writing and a great, slow-burning build-up. There's lots of plot too, a great villain and a wonderful cameo from a truly scary Angel.

Domestic Bliss, Spike/Riley NC17 by [livejournal.com profile] nomelon

Next, another [livejournal.com profile] hello_spikey story. I think I've recced her in all my fic rec posts now. Her characterisation and dialogue are just wonderful. This story not only has a great sense of place - in fact, it might be true to say that the real 'ship it celebrates is the author's with her home city of Cleveland - but a wonderful use of the baby Slayers and some very well-rounded OCs.

The Mad Queen of Cleveland, Spike/Faith, Spike/Drusilla, Spike/Buffy NC17.

[livejournal.com profile] estepheia returned to the fandom with a vengeance in 2007, with this absolute gem of a story, beautifully written and very exciting. The link will take you to Chapter 1. The others can be found in her memories.

Broken English, Giles/Ethan Pg-13-R.

Finally, another story with a very rare pairing that won't be to some people's taste but even if not, the quality of the writing will draw you in.

Close Your Eyes and Go, Faith/Giles Faith/Buffy UST, NC17, by [livejournal.com profile] only_passenger.

I tend never to read WIPs as I am worried I will get into them and then never know the ending - but a couple of those I am certainly going to bookmark ... Thanks

I'll bet a lot more Giles/Faith gets written in the coming year. One thing I've found quite intriguing is to look back over our previous years of posting and note how some ships have had rises and falls in popularity. Either that or people reading those ships just aren't posting recs anymore.

You've written a number of verse characters very well, I'm sure you could do it. Having someone beta for you who writes a good Faith would probably be just the thing to make you feel more confident about it.
