Yup, you read that right. I'm recommending unfinished fics *cue screams of horror*. I know! Craziness! Bear with me for a moment, and I'll tell you why you should try these stories.

Title/Link: The Silken Cage
Author: [livejournal.com profile] margotlefaye
Rating: NC-17
Pairing(s): Buffy/Angelus, Buffy/Angel
Spoilers: AU after season three, with small nods to the first few episodes of season four.
Warnings/Triggers:Highlight to read Non-con, rape, abuse, fetish, bondage, blood play. If you want nice fic where all is sweetness, light and fluffy, consensual, and filled with happy frolicking kittens, or in which Angelus is tamed by his love for the Slayer and turns into a slightly more cranky version of Angel, you have come to exactly the wrong place. However, this is one of the most erotic and compelling stories I have ever read. If you can handle the themes, I promise you will not be disappointed with the story.

Summary: Angelus is back and he's taking what's his.

Why you should read it: This is my oldest favorite fic. I've been following it since 2001. It was the first fic I loaded onto my e-reader when I got it (I still have my printed copy, for old times sake). I don't particularly ship Buffy/Angelus, I'm much more of a Buffy/Angel shipper. Which is fine, because [livejournal.com profile] margotlefaye is too, and she blends both the man and the monster into an elegant, obsessed, and devoted man who has eternity to play with his lover. The story isn't so much about the sex, although there is lots and it is intense (for me, it doesn't cross the line into out of character-ness, nor does it read to me like rape (although there is a chapter, clearly noted, and totally skipable that contains elements of rape). The last chapter was published knowing there would be a long hiatus coming, and there is a sense of closure.

Note: ATM there's only the prologue and the first two chapters posted, but [livejournal.com profile] margotlefaye told me tonight that she plans on uploading the rest of the story this weekend.

The other four fics all have a similar theme, but are very different stories. What can I say? I'm a sucker for 'bringing Tara back' fics.

Title/Link: The Gift of Sorrow
Author: The Rainbow Writers
Rating: PG, later chapters NC-17, all clearly noted
Pairing(s): Willow/Tara, gen
Spoilers:Everything up to and including all of season six.
Warnings/Triggers: Psychic trauma, depression, medication
Summary: A stranger comes to Sunnydale with news that changes everything for the Scoobies. A Tara returns Season Seven rewrite.

Why you should read it: It would be fair to say that the events in Season Six created a schism in the fan base of this popular show. Not only did it divide all of the existing couples, it killed one of the most recent popular members of the cast, dragged one of the shows most beloved characters to the very depths of her soul, making her someone that people hardly recognized and made fans watch the moral demise of the slayer herself. It was a very hard season to watch, and caused many long term fans turn away from the show. We, like many were unhappy with the progress this season began, and decided to write our own next season, to address some of the issues that we felt needed righting. This story is the result. - Beth and Kath, the Rainbow Writers.

This fic is the basis for my head!canon, and has been for years. The integrity of the characters is carefully, artfully, and surprisingly returned to them (earned, not given) and the episodic storytelling means each chapter can read as a standalone.

Subsequent chapters can be found HERE, towards the bottom.

Title/Link: Days of Grace
Author: [livejournal.com profile] watch_yer_back
Rating: PG,
Pairing(s): Willow/Tara, gen
Spoilers:Everything, limited reference to Willow's appearances on AtS.
Warnings/Triggers: None
Summary: In this story, Willow eventually left the Scoobies (though she kept in touch and often drops by to visit) and traveled pretty widely, returning to the coven in Devon several times. Years later, Willow returns briefly to the place that was Sunnydale.

Why you should read it: I have a bit of a weakness for post series, "adult" Willow stories, and I kind of stumbled on to DoG at random. I was merely looking for a long fic. I didn't think I'd find a gem. I devoured it. Empathy, angst, and beautiful storytelling coupled with an impossible challenge - two weeks reunion with a lover long lost in order to save the world. I'm seriously disappointed that it's unfinished. I often shy away from fics with Kennedy in them, but she was palatable in this (to this die hard W/T shipper anyway). The story simply swept me away.

Title/Link: Tempus Fugit Series
Author: LipKandy
Rating: PG13/R
Pairing(s): Willow/Tara, gen
Spoilers:Everything through Season Six
Warnings/Triggers: None
Summary: Willow attempts to deal with her growing feelings for Tara and a strange machine that Buffy essentially drops into her lap. Timey wimey things happen.

Why you should read it: Since figuring out how to load fics onto my e-reader, I've been rediscovering stories that were short WIPs "back in the day" that have grown into epic novels. Tempus Fugit was one I somehow missed years ago. It's a wee bit confusing at first, most people recommend reading TF Season 4 first, then TF Season 7 and then the sadly unfinished TF: Absolute Zero (I actually read S7 first, then S4). Not many fics bring tears to my eyes, and yet this one I actually had to down a few times and regain my composure (LipKandy beautifully connects Willow's return to Tara with Buffy's chance to see her mother). Overall, an excellent story, great action and character moments, and an adorable crush for Dawn.

Title/Link: The Wish of Three Hearts
Author: LonelyTara
Rating: PG13/R
Pairing(s): Willow/Tara, gen
Spoilers:Everything
Warnings/Triggers: None
Summary: It's been three years since Tara's death. Willow travels to the canyon that was once Sunnydale California to celebrate her lost love's birthday. Willow makes a wish, and everything changes...

Why you should read it: This starts off like a simple reunion fic, but quickly develops into an exciting rush of action, angst, and drama. LonelyTara doesn't shy away from Warren's truly evil character. This story is easy to fall into, and each chapter made me leap for more.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I have, even through they are unlikely to ever be completed.
