Eternal WIPs are frustrating, but at the same time there's still a lot of pleasure to be found in all of these stories. None of these fics is ever likely to be completed, but all of them are still well worth reading.

1. Giving In, by ColdCoffeeEyes25 - Post-"Wrecked" with sweeter-than-canon Spuffy and a plot involving the Trio, Amy, and the spirit of Robespierre. As far as I can tell, this is the only Buffy fic the author ever wrote, which is a shame because it's witty, well-plotted, and sweetly romantic. While this is unfinished, it stops in a pretty satisfying place, tying up most of the plot threads.

2. A Dying Dream, by Europanya - Ten years after "Chosen", Spike and Buffy meet again in San Francisco, in a world where most demons have been eradicated by the slayers. Dark, intense, and smutty. This one does NOT stop in a satisfying place, but at least there's nineteen chapters of goodness before you get to the end.

3. Waking the Dead, by Annie Sewell-Jennings - Post-"Grave", everyone is trying to recover and move on from the events of S6 when a new Big Bad comes to town. Angsty, angsty, angsty, with a terrific, original plot. This is one of the few fics that ever actually creeped me out while I was reading it, in a good, scary book kind of way. Annie S-J often gets recced for some of her other stories, like "The Ballad of Randy and Joan" and "The Last Summer", but this is hands down my favorite of her long fic, even if I'll never know the ending.

4. Many Roads, by lilyann56 - This is an all-human AU, sort of. Several years post-"Chosen" Buffy dies again and is reincarnated into the "Normal Again" universe, where she gets a second chance with Spike. Great dialogue and another original, well-executed plot.

5. Season Noir, by Anna S. - I've recced this many times over the years so I'm repeating myself, but it feels wrong to finish off this list with anything else. Beautiful writing in an original, hugely ambitious plot. The last few chapters aren't especially S/B-friendly, but if you finish off with the "extra" chapter, Hanging By a Moment, which Anna says in the notes she was planning on breaking up and integrating into later chapters, it leaves you (or at least it left me) feeling pretty positive about where she was going with Buffy and Spike.
