AU S7
A huge, sprawling, plotty, ensemble-cast S7 AU. The Spuffy reunion and rebuilding is slow and cautious and occasionally fraught, but beautiful. The Buffy-Dawn relationship is wonderful, too. There's fun plot stuff and serious plot stuff. Even the actual pregnancy developments are handled gracefully and with aplomb.
2. Baby Blue, by Anaross
Mid-Ats S5
Just when Spike and Buffy finally start working things out, Illyria brings Spike a baby and tells him it's his. Wonderfully written, with lots of little touches of characterization and plenty of empathy. It also harks back to classical mythology with one of the neatest bits of Buffyverse worldbuilding I've seen in a while.
3. A Symphony of Echoes, by Eurydice
Post-S3 AU; NC-17
Although a sequel to Eurydice's Buffy/William epic Legions of True Hearts, this longfic just about stands on its own. It's the long, tangled, character-rich soulless!Spike/Buffy babyfic the world was waiting for, with plenty of complications and working-out of personal ethics on both sides.
4. A New Dawn, by Kallysten
AU S5
I've seen a number of Buffy's-pregnant-with-the-Key stories, and this is one of my favorites. It begins as single-mom Buffy tries to juggle Slaying and mothering and keeping Spike away from the child he knows is his. Sweet and angsty in the all the right places.
5. The Littler Bit, by Herself
AU S6
One of Herself's sprawling Bittersweet series, in which Buffy has just come back from 1880 and she and Spike must deal with the consequences of what happened there/then. Clear-eyed and unromanticized, yet hopeful.
