5 Faith/Gunn Fics

buffyversetop5Who even knew there were any Faith/Gunn fics, right? What I love most about Faith/Gunn is the idea of them - two rough, urban kids finding meaning in the mission. They're similar personalities in many ways and, as most of these fics explore, understand each other and the lifesyle choices they've made based on the places they came from. Also, they look pretty together.
Unfortunately, I've run out of steam, so my reviews of are pretty sparse. This bears no reflection on the fics themselves or their quality.
1. Scar Tissue by idyll
Faith/Gunn, PG-13, AtS Season 4
Summary: Post-Orpheus Faith is feeling sapped. Gunn offers to be her distraction for the rest of the evening until she heads off to Sunnydale.
Review: A dance, a few beers, conversation and kisses sum up this fic. The lovely comraderie between the two resonates deeply as Faith tries to find her feet for the first time since being sprung from the Big House.
2. Baroque by idyll
Faith/Gunn, R, AtS Season 5
Summary: On the tailwinds of loss, Faith shows up.
Review: No one knows what it is to fuck up and lose quite so sharply as Faith, which makes her the perfect person to go to Gunn after Fred's death. Gunn's POV observations about her hedonism and wildness are breathtakingly beautiful as they drink jungle juice and get lost in each other. The end of this fic when they compare tattoos is especially insightful and poignant.
3. The Minute She Died by theantijoss
Faith/Gunn, Fred/Gunn, NC-17, AtS Season 5
Summary: There's a hole in the world and Gunn feels it accutely.
Review: This fic reads like the despair at the bottom of a bottle. Regret and recriminations are not punishment enough for Gunn for his part in Fred's death, so he takes it one step further. The cocaine trip he endures pushes him further down the rabit hole of grief and it's not clear whether there's any end in sight. Very dark, but plausible fic.
4. Love Me Do by Prophecy Girl
Faith/Gwen, Faith/Gunn, R, AtS Season 4
Summary: A boy. A girl. A love story, but not really.
Review: Just because you participate in a one night stand, doesn't mean you want to be another notch on the headboard. It's heartbreaking to see how Gunn is willing to settle out of pure loneliness, but lovely to read his impressions of Faith.
5. That's Your Boy Breathing by K
Faith & Gunn, PG, post-NFA
Summary: There's been a restructuring of the Council and Faith's got a new Watcher.
Review: I love the premise of this fic and the banter that Faith and Gunn share here. They're sassy. Gunn's regrets and memories of Wesley and his uneasiness with usurping his former role in Faith's life are also touching.
