buffyversetop5I don't do a whole lot of rec'ing, usually because I'm the last train at the station anyway. However, as this is a comm for compiling favorites? I'm givin' this a shot. These are my top five fics for the past year. Multiple pairings, multiple characters. Most of these will be FRAO.

stillrose - Breaking Free. FRAO Status: WIP. I love Spander in almost any way, shape, or form. This one just happens to be futuristic, set in space, and full of complex plot, wonderful characterizations, and mondo hot sex. Yay.
lostgirlslair - Interlude. FRAO This is a Wesley/Oz piece, post Buffy S3, mid S1 Angel. Wesley's stopped at a convenient store, rescues what he thinks is a stranger - turns out to be Oz - from a pack of vampires. The aftermath of Oz's breakup with Willow had to be tough on him, and his self-imposed solitary existence must have made it even more difficult. I can definitely see him grasping at a friendly face, straining to connect to it to suppress the memories of Willow. And Wes is just the objective kind of person to understand that need and accommodate it.
nwhepcat - Heavy as Snow. FRT I thought I'd skim through this little gem but before the third sentence was down my brain, I was engrossed. Xander, California boy extraordinaire, is digging through snow, clearing his sidewalk. The snow's heavy, like shoulder straining heavy, and he's not sure why he should know that. But there's more to it, and hepcat brings it in spades.
nyghtpet - Lightning and Dust. FRAO Spike/Lindsey, in the old west. Lindsey's an outlaw hiding in a small town as the resident preacher. Spike is the deadliest outlaw west of the Mississippi. Hot, gritty, sexy, funny, and just so good.
shadowscast - Sock Puppet - FRAO This has been mentioned several times on this comm, but it's so deserving of the accolade! Xander's living outside the realm of the supernatural with his partner when Spike, mute, damaged, and totally effed up, pops back into his life. This is a beautiful, angsty, wonderful tale.
I had a couple others in mind, (Quartz by sexymermaid, and Second Chance by denied_heaven) but had to withdraw them because they were from 2005. That sucked! They were excellent stories!

Date: 2007-01-03 05:23 am (UTC)*g* Don't worry, the Classic Recs weekend takes recs from all years other than the current one (now 2007). Some interesting sounding stories here, I hadn't heard of the first and fourth before. And I think this is the first wes/oz recced!
