Top 5 Gen Fics

There seems to be an idea around that gen fic isn't written or read very often but this year I found that many of the fics I wanted to put on a list were gen ones.

1. Half the Pieces - by frimfram - All – Spike-centered spin on “A Christmas Carol.” Inventive, fun, moving, and perfect for the season. Go read!


2. In the In-Between Parts I and II – by lillianmorgan - Teen – Part I looks at a day in Fred’s life in between AtS S3 and S4. Part II looks at the same day for Lilah. Incredibly wonderful insight into both their strengths and insecurities.

3. Wendy - by trixiefatcat - All – Spike and Joyce get to know one another bit by bit over a year.

4. Tales of the First: The Calling by smhwpf - PG-13 – Looks at the origin of the First Slayer. Some clever touches, I particularly liked the tie to the mud mask Buffy applies in Restless.

5. The Indiscriminate Dust by heron_pose - All – Giles doesn’t cope well with Buffy’s death.

It's a funny thing how different types of fic can be satisfying in their own way. It seems there are few (if any) fics that have both a slash and het pairing at their center, much less ones that have more of a gen plot structure but I would really love to read a fic like that.
