Top 5 "Not Quite Set in Reality" Fics
Jan. 1st, 2006 08:46 pmSo, I seem to have a lot more "gen fics," as in those without an explicit romantic pairing, bookmarked than I realized. So in reccing gen fics, I'm splitting them into 3 posts so I could include all those I really didn't want to leave out, which involved me making up categories, in a way. So the first category is "Fics not quite set in Buffyverse reality," in which I'm including AU, dream-type-settings, visions, unreliable narrators, etc. Go with me here. ;)
Title: Winner Takes All
Author:
yin_again
Rating: The author doesn't have a rating, but I'd guess PG
Summary/Sample: Several of our beloved Buffyverse characters meet for a game of poker in the afterlife, and there's something of a surprise ending. (Fits the category because, well, it's dead people sitting around playing cards.)
Title: the art of (breathing)
Author:
calvina
Rating: PG-13
Summary/Sample: Xander is in Africa. With Tara. Sort of. It's just beautiful; read it! Her laugh was too pretty for the grey strip of beach, Xander thought, but he wouldn't want to be anywhere else. At almost-Sunnydale on the shores of infinity, who needed Tolkien, really? This had to be happening in a thousand dimensions. (Fits the category because Tara is hanging out with Xander even though she's not of the living. Actually, I'm not sure if this is Xander having imaginings or if it's supposed to be actual memories, but it could be either...)
Title: Little Hours in the Last Forever
Author:
dodyskin
Rating: PG
Summary/Sample: Buffy and Oz. It's kind of indescribable. But very cool. It's just this thing that happened one time. But the bubblewrap is super-important. //"How come we're together anyway?" Buffy says. //"Oh, make it a dream," Oz shrugs. "You don't have to analyse dreams." (Fits the category because it's maybe, probably, a dream.)
Title: The Demons That Plague
Author:
lillianmorgan
Rating: PG-13-ish
Summary/Sample: Spike and someone not-so-nice between Grave and Lessons. Intermittently, she would come, just to mend the monotony and he would scream, “There you got what you want. Look at me! I’m broken.” But she would only smile at him in that clipped, wearisome, lofty way that said “It’s over. William.” (Fits the category because Spike is crazy and possibly seeing things.)
Title: Candles
Author:
yhlee
Rating: PG-13
Summary/Sample: Instead of Connor, Angel had a daughter. But it's much more twisted and cool than that. End world peace and you got to make a wish, kind of like blowing out birthday candles. No one ever thought about what happened to the candles. (Fits the category because it's AU.)
