Or now gone. The loss of Open On Sunday is particularly devastating because it ran for a long time and many drabbles there were recced, but few of them made their way to another space like AO3:

1) Long List of Grievances by waddis - Heh to Andrew wearing on Spike's very short nerve.

2) Walking Higher by liz_marcs is another work missing from AO3, although some other works of hers appear there. Xander genfic with an interesting narrative style.

3) When I'm Up I can't get Down'| Hoban Washburne by thedothatgirl. A vid for the Wash lover in all of us.

4) Gift by Anna S. Some of her longer works are available on AO3, but many of her one-shots, and even longer works, are not.

5) Everything's Made To Be Broken by maddogs991. Could anything be more nostalgic than songfic to a song that's now a classic? Xander/Giles ficlet.

I'm so glad that you copied many drabbles into your recs over the years (as well as linking them). A number of them would otherwise just be gone.

There are a lot of excellent works that haven't been archived elsewhere, as I discovered that a creator having an account there didn't mean that most of their works had been copied over. In a few cases they have one but have not uploaded anything to it.

I would love to see Open on Sunday started up again. But, yeah, probably not on the tumbleweed infested emptiness that are the J's

I miss that community so much. It generated quite a bit of exceptional work. As a writer it inspired me to write some really decent pieces too.

In general, it's a shame with how many fanworks for the Buffyverse have been lost as we moved from place to place as fandom migrated. Over the summer, I stumbled across some archived Willow/Angel archives the Slayer Network Offline Resource and even the Wayback Machine and it doesn't feel like it was that long ago that these sites were all active places but now they're gone. And it takes quite a bit of work to find the archived sites to read some of the older fic that's mostly lost.

(I would have made a post but I was doing most of my reading on my phone and then I stupidly cleared my phone's browser history completely.)

Sadly I don't have a Spangel icon here to help express my appreciation for leading me to a Spangel story I hadn't read yet!

I also enjoyed the Andrew/Spike-ish one, that was comedy gold.

And finally, all of thedothatgirl's vids are great, including this one. Will happily rewatch.

Yes, and it was an entry point into fanfic for so many people, as well as one of the last places people probably continued work when they became too busy to write longer work.

Argh, so sorry about the history loss! And yes, it is difficult to find older sites. There are a few search engines that specialize in this, such as https://millionshort.com/ and https://wiby.me/

But you're right that things keep disappearing regularly and it's easy to find from one year to the next that something has gone offline :(
