Top 5 fics with Spike in them
Nov. 3rd, 2014 11:40 pmOkay, here I am too! I wish to thank everyone who recommended other fics, especially the Spangel ones. I know some of them, since I did some time lurking the English fandom but saying nothing (Because I didn't know how to write), but it's really nice to discover other classics. It makes me feel part of the group.
So, my list: 5 fics with Spike as major character I love so much (There are too many Spike-centric fics in this fandom that I love and it's hard to pick just 5)
Beggars would Ride by
wiseacress This is one of the first Spike/Angel fics I've ever read. It's painful, dark and gorgeously written. I love the dynamic between Angel and Spike and how they hurt each others. I'm a sucker for Spangel h/c.
19 Hours by Annie Sewell-Jennings. First English Spuffy fic. Just glorious. It's a post Chosen fic, it's Spike/Buffy-centric and there is a lot of glorious happy sex involved. If you love Spike and Buffy together you have to read this.

snickfic Recently discovered and it's a series. Again with the Spuffy post-Chosen kinda happy place. This one is also about mpreg and believe me when I say that it's the greatest thing ever.

stultiloquentia Spike. Buffy. Pegging. Hot. If you like hot Spuffy porn this is the thing for you.
A Raising in the Sun by
rahirah I guess that everybody knows this one. It's actually my favorite part of the saga. I love it because it really feels S6-like and it's all Spike's POV and it's excellent.

Date: 2014-11-04 05:07 am (UTC)And I'm not a fan of mpreg but the first "chapter" of To Come Home To is one of the most evocative post-Chosen, post-apocalyptic Spuffy fics I've come across; the snippets of Xander are nigh-on perfect, Spike is so vunerable and Buffy incredibly weary. (Very different to 19 Hours.)

Date: 2014-11-04 01:36 pm (UTC)Snick's fic is also beautiful. I know that mpreg is a strange thing, but I love it when it comes to Buffy and Spike and when it's written so beautifully. Gender-flippiness FTW!

Re: mpreg I honestly thought that was a joke at first. snickfic can do no wrong in my book so her's is the best of the genre I've come across, but I've noticed - nobody ever takes mpreg to it's logical conclusion: I have yet to see a chapter with the birth - which would have to mean C-section of course. (Because my first thought when I read mpreg was, but how is the baby supposed to come out of that tiny little hole? Via surgery, duh. Unless Willow did some sort of spell to transport the baby out of the man's body and there are so many ways that could go horribly wrong.)
(Which kind of reminds me of some of the failed pregnancies in the novel The Time Traveler's Wife, actually.)

Snick's mpreg is just on another level. It's beautifully written, but it's also believable and it deals with the emasculation and the consequences of the pregnancy. It's just something else, really, and I love the fact that it isn't about "replacing the female character" (Which I noticed it's something common in M/M mpreg) It's really about exploring the concept of gender and the role reversal between male and female.
Oh, I'm going to miss your icons! I was curious to see what you had in mind!

Date: 2014-11-04 03:18 pm (UTC)Oh yes, for all the reasons you mention. (Keep in mind I tend to be largely uninterested in pregnancy and baby/toddler fic to start, including traditional ones.)

This does not surprise me at all, sadly.

??? You mean to post this round? I was actually planning to do one post of meta and one of large banners/posters - there are too many beautiful icons out there for me to even think about trying to state "five favorites". Whereas there are some large fan arts out there - or perhaps I should say, fan artists - that have had a decisive influence on me.
ETA: nevermind I just saw your other post!
