Five More Fics by Clockwork_hart1
Jan. 16th, 2014 02:43 pmI've already rec'd Lucy's Buffy & Tara friendship fic "Talk to Me"; This year she vowed to be Anya, a "vengeance demon" for oft-neglected women of the 'verse and their relationships to each other and she's kept that promise in a big way by creating marvelous must-read stories. These are just a sample: one shippy, the rest gen-friendship, all female-centric.
"Putting the Check in Checkpoint" (Buffy, Anya, Ensemble, S5 episodic of "Checkpoint") - For
snickfic's lady-love fest prompt: "Buffy and Anya. A moment when they understood each other perfectly." This fic is my headcanon now - the way it should have been. It feels like a true "deleted scene" from that episode in every way. Perfection. I can't imagine anyone improving on this.
"Holding on to Forever" (Buffy, mentions of Dawn, midS5, post-The Body) - written for
lynzie914's prompt for a Buffy fic: "My friends assure me my heart will heal, but they also believe that CPR works like on TV. (Six broken ribs and a cracked sternum. Good as new.)" at
kwritten's lady-love fest. An achingly lovely portrait of Buffy's struggles to function in the face of overwhelming loss.
"A Lesson in Understanding" (Joyce, Giles, early S3, episodic of "Anne") - Inspired by a prompt from
velvetwhip. Another "it should and COULD have been this way" that gives Joyce Summers her due, and the series only occasionally offered us: the humanly-flawed but very real complexity, love and quiet strength inherited by both her daugthers. Summers blood, indeed.
"Corruption's Only A Sin When it Doesn't Get Finished" (NC-17, Cordelia/Lilah, AtS) - Something on the lighter side for the Fifth Annual Femslash Kink Meme on Dreamwidth. I don't read NC-17 fics, I'm not into sex scenes, I haven't watched AtS (what happens to Cordy? *sniffle* I just can't) ergo this fic isn't anything I'm into...except when it's this sexy, funny and just plain damn delightful? I can be seduced.
"Through Dirt" (Kennedy, S7 post-Get it Done; character death) - Another fic that "fills in the holes" inspired by a prompt, this one from
dragonyphoenix, who felt that Chloe's suicide was brushed off far too easily on the show. Lucy takes the tantalizing hints of a greater complexity to Kennedy's character that are hinted at on the series, but never really developed, and burrows deep beneath the surface in this character study. Haunting from start to finish.

Date: 2014-01-16 08:03 pm (UTC)Oh, Sweetie thank you so very much for this! I can't believe how lovely you are and how much you enjoy and praise my work but I am so glad that I could touch you enough to encourage this. I adore you. All of your praise, all of your comments and helpful hints are all so wonderful and I will never thank you enough.
And I was incredibly surprised to see Corruption's Only A Sin on here. Mostly because it was Ats, but also because it was a smutty, silly story worlds away from the others. I am glad you enjoyed it though, funny and sexy? That was the aim, but I wasn't wholly sure I'd pulled it off - thanks for the encouragement there, btw. I enjoyed writing that so much. A lot more than my usual slash fiction, too (is my gay showing?), because it was just sort of... Sweet? In a strange way. Sometimes light-hearted fares can be balm for the soul when you write all the angst I do.
anyway, I'm going to thank you again, first for making this list and secondly for being a wonderful person. Thank you Janice, you're a fantastic friend and I'm glad to call you one.

Date: 2014-01-16 08:11 pm (UTC)I actually had intented to list one of your Jenny fics here and forgot (can I do another five?) I still have lists of meta to rec so I'm not sure, there's only three days to go here!

Yes, that is a very good word for it "sweet" and surprising and free of any "puritanism" that can show up even in porn and smut sometimes, i.e. a sense of the writer trying and straining TOO HARD to MAKE IT SEXY. There's your usual marvelous "effortlessness" although I know it's not effortless on your end. Making it look so is one mark of a true writer IMO because it's something that has to be practiced over time, like any other part of the craft.
And then you just make it flow. And there is such a variety of moods and tonalities in these stories!
Thank you Janice, you're a fantastic friend and I'm glad to call you one.
You know your feelings are mine to you, 150%.
ETA: Btw as I was working opn this I glanced at your profile page and noticed someone gifted you with an upgrade to your account? Nifty!

Date: 2014-01-16 08:21 pm (UTC)Plus, when you're writing characters that are that sensual and sexy in their own right, there's no room to force it. You just go with it.
Oh, and RE: the paid account. I haven't had the time to do a gushy post thanking profusely whoever gifted me with it, but I am so joyously grateful that someone cares enough to do that for a virtual (hey, look, a pun!) stranger. I feel like my corner of the internet is a beautiful place filled with beautiful people. *wink wink nudge nudge*

Date: 2014-01-16 08:41 pm (UTC)My biggest problem as a writer (aside from my disorganized brain)? Overworking my prose. Going over and over, rereading it, losing the initial freshness because I feel the need to "solve the problems" make it "better" etc. Whereas my meta (nonfiction) posts here and other places online are nearly all set down directly without a rough draft. The Ted meta was an exception, and large chunks of the draft were left off and it changed a great deal. Got tighter, more personal & less intellectual, less didactic, and I think for the better. But that's been an exception.
Conversely, the AU post-the Gift fic was an exception to my fics: I was inspired by two other fics, and remember the hell I went through formatting it (every time I tried to do an edit ALL my paragraph spacing disappeared, gah); but I don't remember writing it. At all. It just happened. I remember setting down the Hours fic I posted here on paper but it felt like it came through me rather than from me - I just happened to be sitting there, you know?
You just go with it.
Amusingly enough those moments of being "in the flow" are like lovemaking. I 'm not kidding. There's an energy, excitement to it, to that feeling of being part of something greater than yourself, of losing yourself and letting go, that it almost doesn't matter what you're doing that gets you there (unless it's a destructive activity of course); and it's part of human nature to want that. Drug use, religion, love, addictions, meditation, acting onstage, writing, are all a part of that. The "high" is the reward.
And as with any other, the "crash" from writing when you're out of sorts and the words/ideas don't come is terrible.
someone cares enough to do that for a virtual (hey, look, a pun!) stranger
heh, I've always suspected you were a closet Slayer. (A Slayer NEVER apologizes for her puns, after all.)
And I don't know who your benefactor was hon, but you deserve it. This is a lovely place to be!

Date: 2014-01-16 09:13 pm (UTC)That lovemaking metaphor is sounding better and better. Like you said, it's got a high and a down, like all addictions.

Oh, honey I'm not a closeted anything. I'm a proud opinionated, bisexual slayer of fiction who avenges the unsung women of fandom with prose and puns aplenty.
(I love you for that sentence, btw)
Also, there was something that struck me about this list. Like I said, I never for a second expected it, and I most certainly didn't expect Corruption to feature. But the one I was sure you'd use wasn't there. The fic in question, by the by, is the Tough Love fic, Shadows and Light, about Tara's sacrifice. I'm not saying that it was so wonderful and it must be included (hell if I've got that kind of hubris), but I know how much that sacrifice (and that fic) means to you. Just something I was thinking about.

THANKS!...which one?

As a matter of fact.....I just took care of that (http://buffyversetop5.livejournal.com/365003.html).
Is it my fault you've been so freakin' prolific? *wicked grin*

Date: 2014-01-16 10:25 pm (UTC)Sentence? I think O meant the one specifically about me being a Slayer, but the whole damn thing is wrought with love, tbh.
And see my unintelligible mush about how much I adore you in regards to the OTHER LIST over there.
I can't with the words and stuff.
