Five fabulous 2009 icon makers
Jan. 11th, 2010 06:38 pmGuess who just coughed up the bucks for extra icon space? Why, that'd be me, on account of talented iconists like these:
1.
xlivvielockex:
,
,
Gorgeous clear colors, lovely framing, fun captions in the perfect fonts. And also the artist of my dancing Dru default icon. *points*
2.
visualthinker11:
,
,
Very interesting use of backgrounds and graphical effects (especially as seen in "Destiny" icon); equally interesting visual use of text. Also extremely prolific - I must have forty or fifty of of this artist's icons on my hard drive, and those were just my absolute favorites.
3.
orangelusik:
,
,
Lovely lighting, very interesting framing.
orangelusik resists the need for 'classic' portrait framing and instead keeps more of the surrounding context, giving a neat sense of distance, as in the third icon (plus, just check out that halo effect!). This is another artist whom I've nabbed a ton of icons from.
4.

.
This artist is on a project to icon five caps from every Buffy ep, each either textless or with a quote from the ep. As here in the first and third icons, this can result in some really interesting juxtapositions of text and image. Also, an emphasis on more muted tones, as seen here.
5.

.
An emphasis on fun caps and occasionally text to go with them, and rich, gorgeous colors. Not an artist whose work I know as well, but one whom I'm anxious to see more of.

Date: 2010-01-12 03:03 am (UTC)EDIT: And I wanted to add that this Anya icon is now the Anya icon for me. The framing, the text, plus just the shot itself are all just perfect - they capture exactly how far Anya went over the course of the series.

Also, the Riley-cowboy one almost made me bust a gut. It's almost enough for me to put up with the double fail of "Into the Woods"/"As You Were" to get the AWESOMENESS that is Riley as the big dumb cowboy!
