Five fics by Anaross
Nov. 1st, 2009 08:15 pmIn my humble opinion
anaross is one the finest BtVS ficwriters. Her works are a happy marriage of intriguing plots, sharp observations of human behavior and, often, reflections on the creative process.
Unspoken R
Spike/Buffy. Post-NFA. One day Buffy finds out that somebody gave her a garden... You may read the story as a straightforward Spuffy reunion fic or as a wry reflection on verbal and non-verbal communication between people.
Long Day's Journey PG-13
Ensemble, Spike/Buffy, post-Chosen. Alternate AtS season 5 in which Spike investigates the Connor mystery, Buffy investigates Spike's refusal to see her, and
anaross investigates different approaches to an unreliable-narrator-type of a story.
My Life Closed Twice R
Spike/Buffy. Post-NFA, Buffy discovers shanshued Spike who teaches poetry in a college. His attempts to lead quiet life are ruined as Buffy Summers enrolls in his class.
anaross, who held panels at several Writercons, gives Spike her own job and invites us to visit a creative laboratory of an author and a poet.
Ransomed R
Ensemble, Spike/Faith. Spike, Faith and Giles run a school for new slayers in LA suburb.
anaross explores the most fascinating aspect of Buffyverse - moral dilemmas characters face every day.
Stay R
Spike/Buffy. I won't spoil it for you - but here's a warning: prepare a lot of tissues for that one.

Date: 2009-11-01 07:39 pm (UTC)I fing it very telling that, although she wrote Ransomed as a Spike/Faith story with a happy ending, two years later she revisited the Ransom-verse and wrote a Spuffy epilogue (well, kind of) (http://anaross.livejournal.com/79673.html). (Although it's not listed in her Memories as part of the verse).

Date: 2009-11-02 08:12 am (UTC)I even read the Spike/Faith stories even if I don't get that pairing, just to have another dose of her lovely writing. I'll go see this "kind of Spuffy epilogue", thanks for the link!

Date: 2009-11-02 02:27 pm (UTC)What I particularly love about her is her ability to maintain a fair balance. Her Spike/Faith stories are respectful to Spuffy pairing, and in her Spuffy epilogue of "Ransom" she is respectful to Spike/Faith pairing.

Date: 2009-11-02 04:28 pm (UTC)I'd add a 6th - although this is "all about five". :-) The sixth would be Nevertime (http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=anaross&keyword=Nevertime&filter=all).

Honey, I'm using the occasion to ask you if you have ever posted your recs anyplace that isn't f-locked nowadays. I'd love to link your recs at Fanlore. I know that you have locked everything on your LJ but I cling to a remote possibility that you have another place that could be accessed by everybody.

Date: 2009-11-03 06:00 am (UTC)Funny you should ask. I've been thinking about making the ficlocks accessible to everyone on either Dreamwidth or InsaneJournal - but it will take a cluster of free time to do it - probably next summer, when I will be on hiatus from work. I know it's a lot - but if you remind me next year, at the end of May, it'll spark me to do that. Then, once I've finished, I can tell you and you can link me from Fanlore. Does that sound okay to you?
