Thanks to everyone posting and commenting for another successful round of Classic Recs, as well as petzipellepingo for lending a hand once again. During this session we passed our 500th rec post!

We will be opening again for our Top 5 2007 session on December 31, so start gathering up your recs from this year. If anyone would be willing to volunteer to make us a few new icons for it, that would be great! Please comment below.

I'd also like to say how nice it was to hear from some people new to the fandom who have come by to browse the archive we've built up. Hope to see many more of you come January. For those of you not already abed, have a Happy Halloween!

Top 5 Fics by herself_nyc

It’s probably no secret that I unashamedly worship herself_nyc’s amazing talent, which she’s generously applied in many wonderful Spike/Buffy stories. What I love most about her writing – and what deliciously breaks my heart every time and keeps me coming back for more – is that she never falls into the trap of making Spike and Buffy’s relationship easy for either of them. In her stories they have to work at it almost constantly, deal with their differences and their similarities as well as everything a Slayer’s existence can throw at them, thereby lending this most supernatural relationship a deep sense of realism and truth. The joy and angst she portrays are painfully exquisite, beautifully written and mesmerizing.

It’s hard to pick five favorites from among the wealth, but as of this minute, ( they are: )

Eighteen Days By elenorlaura ~ I love this fic because it takes a time in canon, the gap between season 3 and 4 Buffy, that lot of people have tried to tackle, used everything that was good, and perfected what wasn't and left Spike as evil and deep and pragmatic as ever. There is nothing redeeming here, he wants what he wants and goes about it relentlessly.
