Buffy vs. the TeeVee by [livejournal.com profile] st_salieri
Part 1, part 2, part 3
Post-NFA, PG, сomplete. Buffy and Spike have a nice life, full of sparks and snarks, but suddenly Buffy's TV starts showing fragments of her life in Sunnydale. Including the moments Buffy doesn't want Dawn to watch...

Worth It by [livejournal.com profile] hello_spikey
Post-Innocence. Buffy takes Spike as a hostage in hope to lure Angel into a trap but turns out he doesn't care. Buffy has to endure a very annoying vampire whom she can't bring herself to slay. Deliciously snarky character study with incredibly funny, sparkling dialogues.

Rockin' the Night Away by [livejournal.com profile] cindergal
Post-Chosen. Soft R-ish. Buffy and Spike hear Billy Idol singing Jingle Bell Rock. Hijinks ensue. A multimedia ficlet: author invites us to share Buffy and Spike's experience (re Billy Idol, not sex!) to appreciate characters' reaction. Fluffy fun. Each one-liner is a gem!

And Then Begin Again by [livejournal.com profile] tesla321
One-shot, PG-13, late season 4. Buffy and Spike, trapped in a silo in total darkness, are forced to cooperate - and to talk. Priceless dialogues, sharp characters observations and perfect balance between serious and teasing tone. The story works as a companion to Hush. In Hush characters could see each other but couldn't speak to each other. Here they can speak but can't see each other. Both situations lead to higher level of sincerity. Buffy and Spike talking about oxymorons, music hall and Woodstock, as well as discovering that Angel and Joyce have similar tastes in music is comedy gold.

A very brief episode of Barb!Brain Theatre by [livejournal.com profile] rahirah

Some of these remind me of an earlier post about fic as meta!

heee! Thanks for the rec, darling! I didn't think the story was funny!

I think I've decided it's title is "Worth it".

*shrug*

Love the others! So much fun to read! That Barbverse Theatre snippet is LOL-tastic!

Just when the winter gloom makes me feel most unappreciated (I'm talking about my personal life here) along comes a rec from you and nice feedback! You have brightened my day.

It's an argument that has been made for a while that all fic is a form of critical commentary, given that it's based on a reworking of another work. I'm not sure I'd necessarily extend that idea to all fanfic, but I definitely think there's a good portion that makes a clear argument, even if that's not its central intention.
