Top Five Perfect 2008 Fics

1- Surfacing by only_passenger: Post-S6, Buffy and Xander drink their sorrows away. The most believable Buffy/Xander fic EVER. Even those who vomit at the mention of those two together were in awe at how perfect this fic is. It had appealed to so many different tastes that it deserves its place at #1 best 2008 fic.



2- Closure by eowyn_315: When Buffy finds herself assaulted after a Lowell House party with no memory of what happened, she turns to an unlikely ally to help put the pieces together and find the person who raped her. (BtVS season 4 - after "A New Man") The most believable "rape" fic in which rape isn't even featured, it's about the mystery of who raped Buffy as well as the emotional damage it had caused her. The best Spuffy fic I've read this year.

3- Epilogue by snowpuppies: Post-Chosen, the only two standing are the normal ones. A heartbreaking, angsty Xander/Dawn fic, where the two are trying to survive the aftermath of a huge tragedy.

4- Lingering by gabrielleabelle: Three months after Chosen, Buffy is still mourning the loss of Spike. When the amulet he wore is retrieved from the wreckage at Sunnydale, Buffy inadvertently wishes for William Pratt. Buffy struggles with her grief while William learns to adjust to the modern world and finds out about who he would have become in this time. The only Buffy/William I've ever read, and from someone who's not into the pairing, it's perfectly amazing!

5- A Short Rest by antennapedia: A sweet, feels so canon fic in which Xander gets the flu and have Giles to take care of him. You really should read this one, it can be a missing scene if Giles showed a little more interst in Xander's wellbeing.

I just read "Surfacing," and wow. It's a pairing I haven't visited in years, and it works beautifully here. Thanks for recommending it. I'm looking forward to pursuing the other stories listed.

I like Buffy and Xander as friends, and find their relationship so special because he's the only one who hasn't left her and yet never slept with her. This fic made me accept Xander and Buffy's friendship even when they have sex.
