This list seemed easy to put together at first. What stories do I jump on the moment I see a new installment posted? On the downside (for the list, that is) people kept finishing their WIPs before I could post this! I think this is the fourth iteration already. So, as of today...

(1) The Other Side of the Tracks by [livejournal.com profile] frimfram - Mature – I half wonder if I shouldn’t call this a crossover, given that the B story involves a not yet successful Arthur Conan Doyle drawn by curiosity to William’s disappearance and Cecily’s mysterious machinations. This is a fascinating look at William’s early days as a new vamp with enjoyable historical detail and some gripping characterization of the relations in his new family.

(2) Temporary by [livejournal.com profile] entrenous88 - Teen so far – Xander is working for the Watchers Council post-Chosen. Spike reappears from the amulet, but not in L.A. And he’s not talking – which considering who he is, should be enough of a mystery right there.

(3) Serenity and the Outside Man by [livejournal.com profile] justhuman - Mature – Firefly crossovers seem to be getting popular. This was one of the first I read and I really enjoy the way all the characters have been ringing true, which is particularly important when you’re blending universes. In this case Spike takes on a new job in his long, nomadic life, and his new boss takes on more than he bargained for.

(4) Ring the Bell Backward by [livejournal.com profile] st_salieri - Mature – Post-NFA, Spike gets the shansu but it’s not an easy choice, and it has ripple effects on those around him. I like the approach here to his reactions, and there are loads of spot-on character moments, particularly of Spike and Angel’s. Continuation of a Spike/Buffy prequel which should probably be read first. I absolutely loved the way it had them meet again – that’s exactly how ME should have done it too : )

(5) On Parliament Hill - by [livejournal.com profile] calove - Teen - Mostly finished from what I can tell but apparently with a chapter still to come. As the title indicates, a series of vignettes taking place in the same spot over the years in William’s life. A nifty idea and lovely execution.

ETA Why is the star icon all angry? My kitty mood set just seems rather fascinated...

I've only read the first one, but I'll look forward to the others. You know I want her to update that story soon. I adore it. I miss it!

Yes, I have exactly the same problem! :) I guess a new year means new fic for some perhaps.
#2 does sound really interesting! Anyone that can get Spike not to talk is really working hard! :)

Yay, thank you very much for the rec! The others are all ones I've bene meaning to read, so I'm going to use this as a spur to get down to actually doing so. Going to hit the printer ahead of going home for the holidays.

Thanks so much for including my story "Temporary" on this list. I'm glad you have enjoyed what has been posted of it. And I would say sorry that it isn't finished yet, but...then it wouldn't have gotten a mention. Kidding! I am trying to finish it before the new year rings in, at any rate.

Thank you again for listing it here among these other intriguing-looking stories. :)

Oh, very cool! I'll look around to find that person and thank them, if I haven't already. I hope you enjoy that other story. :)
