Five Ways I Read Fic In 2007

When in doubt, make a list. That's what this comm is about, right? And since I'm awfully fond of the "X somethings Y Z'ed"-type fics, here's five I enjoyed in 2007 – some of them made me laugh, others ripped my heart out and stomped on it (y'know, in a good way), some of them managed both before they were over. Some are porny, others are completely non-porny, all of them make perfect sense for the characters.

1. Five Proceedings of the We Hate Cordelia Club by francis_eugene (Xander & Willow friendship, G). From childhood to seen-too-much adulthood - heartwarming until it gets the tear canals working overtime on the last one.

2. Five Ways Buffy Summers Didn't Die by spuffyduds (various pairings, PG13-NC17). The creepy thing is how close it gets, and how much sense each would have made.

3. 25 occasions people have celebrated in the Jossverse by minnow1212 (Gen, PG-ish). 25 little moments, giving the stage to both regulars and near-forgotten characters and saying so much with few words.

4. Five Things Angel Never Says To Spike by lyrstzha (Spike/Angel, NC17). Just such beautiful characterizations - and I say that as someone who doesn't normally read explicit slash. One of the most surprising and yet perfectly natural post-NFA solutions I've read, too.

5. Ten Moments In The Life of Faith Lehane by bakatulip (Gen, PG13). Faith pre-Sunnydale. bakatulip has written a bunch of similar fics for other characters too, all worth checking out.
