I try to do a crossover rec list ever year because I love a well done crossover and I don't think I've recced these here before (apologies if I have!) And apologies also because I feel like I'm spamming, but I'm not around much next week, so trying to get some posts up while I can.
Serenity Nevada by ChristinaK This is a BTVS/Firefly crossover and is an human AU as far as Mal and co are concerned. This is an Oz fic, specifically Oz whose summer road trip takes him to a sleepy little town in Nevada- one that just woke up with a big new problem. Mal as the sheriff, Zoe as his deputy and Simon as the local coroner who has a slightly crazy sister are just brilliant. And the explanation for why River is the way she is, is a wonderful segue into Buffy canon. Go read, this is brilliant.
Reaping the Whirlwind (The Boom Boom Ba Remix) by Liz Marcs is a BTVS/Dead Like Me crossover. I didn’t know anything about Dead Like Me, but this is an example of trusting the author because it’s terrific. Roxy’s got a promotion, a new grim reaper to break in who already has some supernatural experience. Oh and a maybe, sort of boyfriend who may or may not be a pirate. Highly recommended. Oh and because this is a remix, you should also read the story that inspired it, which is Four Drabbles about Dawn and Death by
nothorse, which are also terrific.
Donna the Vampire Slayer by Nomad is a West Wing crossover. ’ll give you three guesses who gets Called when Buffy dies! *g* This is inspired - the characterisation and the voices are spot on and the snark, oh god the snark, especially between Donna and Josh is a joy to read. There are three lovely stories in this series, and I defy you not to sit and read all three back to back.
The Adventures of a Displaced Watcher by
antennapedia is a great crossover with Sherlock Holmes in which an encounter with Ethan sends Giles into the past where he seeks help from the Council and from Holmes and Watson. I especially loved the interactions between Giles and Watson in this one. (There is a snippet of an unfinished sequel at the end of this story which is worth a look, if only to mourn the might have been! *g*)
Finally, Legends of a Not Very Dark At All Knight by Te is a Batman crossover and a salutary lesson on what happens when an obsession goes a little teeny tiny bit too far. What happens is you get crack fic of the highest order that makes me giggle like mad just thinking about it.
