Top Five Firefly/Serenity Crossovers

Remember when I couldn't think of what to rec? That's over now.

Since the release of Serenity there has been an influx of new Firefly fic. And some of it is BtVS crossover fic.
Here are some of the stories that I really liked.



Item Title or Description: the Bittersweets on Serenity. This is a series starting with "A Crazy Gorram Story" and "In a Lady's Bed" which are archived on Bugger This and then there are also some continuations posted on herself_nyc_fic.

Why I chose this: herself_nyc's lush writing style is enough but I also really like how she's exploring the universe(s) and the emotional ramifications of living that long.

Item Title or Description: Serenity and the Outside Man
Creator’s Name: justhuman
Pairing/Characters: Spike/Mal
Rating: NC17 overall
Warnings: slash, a dog named after Angel *giggle*
Why I chose this: I've only just started reading this WIP but I'm really enjoying it so far. It's very well written and has excellent voices.

Item Title or Description: Ninety-Nine Moments in a Life that Isn't Hers (and one that is):
Beginning (somewhere in the middle)
Creator’s Name: marenfic
Pairing/Characters: Buffy/Mal
Rating: R
Warnings: sex, flustered Mal
Why I chose this: This wee ficlet kinda drops us in the middle of a relationship/set-up and lets us imagine how it got that way. Apparently she's working on a cluster of related ficlets but they're not all up yet.

And then I have this thing about River and Spike talking...

Warnings: crazy talk, some mind reading
Why I chose this: I'm in awe of people who write good River. And this ficlet definitely does that and manages to give insight on both Spike and River as characters.

Item Title or Description: In the Same Boat
Creator’s Name: mpoetess
Pairing/Characters: Spike and River
Rating: G
Warnigs: even more crazy talk, and an up close and personal view into River Tam's noggin
Why I chose this: Remember what I said about people who write good River? Um, yeah. I think I'm cheating with this one because it was written last year. Don't spank me, LM! Incidentally, if anyone knows of any other good Spike/River fics, lemme at 'em.

Note: I might have included beanbeans's sexy Spike/Inara story Reflections but sexymermaid just did in one of the preceding posts.

I am so going to read these. I've been keeping up with the first, am reccing the second too, and what I want for Christmas is more time to read the rest!

Well, the last three are all really short - flashfics really.

I've not read a lot of crossovers, but 'Given Name' is one of my favourite fics. I can also rec. In the same Boat, which has got to be the best attempt *ever* to write from River's POV.

I totally agree.

I just really like the Spike and River dynamic. It's reminiscent of Spike and Dru only of course, River's not *evil* and she's, well, herself.

Excellent! Thanks so much for these. Now that I've seen the film and have some time I can see myself diving into these. Spike/Mal sounds just up my street.

Yes, I agree and there's certainly potential there for people who want to continue thinking about Spike and Angel and how they'd go on.
