5 vids exposing darker aspects of the verse

The Jossverse is a dark place. Two of these vids look at disturbing themes the stories themselves bring up – incest, violence, incestuous violence. Two are more meta and one is almost (but not quite) literally dark.

1 - Origin Stories by [livejournal.com profile] giandujakiss One of the most widely discussed vids of 2008, a hard hitting and passionate polemic on the subtextual racism of BtVS/AtS. The introductory sequence and the final verse with Dana have a visceral angry power that is shaming to watch.

2 - How Much is that Geisha in the Window? by [livejournal.com profile] lierdumoa Equally powerful and technically breathtaking exposé of the mysterious absence of Asians in Firefly.

3 - Legend of a Cowgirl by [livejournal.com profile] shati Zoe is not absent but, even as it celebrates her, there’s a palpable tension in this vid, which speaks to just how difficult it is to get the camera to do the same and not be distracted by all the pretty white people.

4 - Tear You Apart by [livejournal.com profile] bradpcu Moving away from the meta but not from the disturbing, the dark and the twisty. Kaylee/Simon or is it?

5 - Counting Bodies (remastered) by [livejournal.com profile] millylicious The father will kill the son.

Oh what an interesting list idea! I've seen all but #3 so I'll have to check that out.
