Five Fics by Foxstarreh (Foxinator) on FF.net

I'd be the world's biggest liar if I claimed I could actually whittle down foxstarreh's stories last year to "five best" because
there are too many and all of them excellent; this is just a small sampling

"Those Things" - (Buffy/Angel/Spike; Dawn, post-NFA) This is the fic that turned me into a B/A/S shipper. Just lovely.


"On the Edge" - (Buffy, early-mid S6, canon compliant) "Buffy's afraid of drowning. She figures she should be afraid of heights now, too." Character study for a prompt by leni_ba.

"White Wedding" - (Willow/Tara, AU) One of the most chilling character studies of Willow I've ever read; controlling things (and people) has become all too easy.

"Ash" (Buffy, Angel, Spike; Buffy/Spike, post-Chosen) Spike left her nothing to hold onto after the Hellmouth; Angel offers a way to help. The numbness of grief before the damn of emotion breaks.

"Save the World" (Gen, Tara, Kennedy, AU episodic of Chosen) Exactly what I always imagined Tara's role would have been in Chosen, had she lived.  AWESOME. (Why aren't there more AU S7 fics with Tara in them? Get on it, fandom, pretty please.)

Bonus - yes, I'm cheating; but "Survivor's Reunion" (Gen, Buffy, Xander, Spike, Harmony, ensemble; post-Chosen) was one of my favorite comedic fics of the year. The gang meets up for their tenth year class reunion; Harmony is organizing the event. There will be monsters - and awkward conversations with ex-boyfriends.

Full disclosure: i didn't expect this either; I was going to add "These Things" along with four other random stories by other authors....and then I remembered another story you'd written and another and...realized I had to just give it up and give in to reality. I could have done at least 1-2 more rec list just of your stories from this year, and that's no lie. I'd forgotten just how much excellent work you did last year. Really stunning. I have no idea how you do it.

So, the list is certainly deserved, at minimum.

I'd meant to make this a multi-author list and just have "Those things", then remembered "On the Edge" and how much that KILLS me; and....I'd forgotten how many of the stories I'd enjoyed this year came from Fox. Pretty awe-inspiring.

I would forget ff.net existed if not for the links at the su_herald; which is funny because that's the only other site I posted fanfic on ten years ago (in another category). I find the sheer volume at ff.net can be pretty daunting.

Credit goes to the folks at su_herald for turning me on to Fox's work, although several of my friends esp spuffy_luvr had spoken of them very highly as well.

Fox's stories are also posted on AO3 and I usually prefer that format for reading (nice, big print etc) but for some reason I was able to find what I wanted much easier and faster on ff.net last night.

Is that the smushname? Thanks, I'll remember that. It's easier than playing round robin with the initials! ("Who's on first?") I have an aversion to smushnames normally as you probably know from my journal but this one is actually sort of cute.

We aim to please! *lol* Glad you like hon, but you and I have some similar tastes as far as that goes re: the ladies of the 'verse. And Fox's work really runs a wide range of ships and situations; this was just the tip of the iceburg.

As I said it is ALL Fox's fault that I ship the three of them now! I'm a lot more flexible on my shipping preferences than a year ago anyway. I've adopted snowpuppies motto "Read the fic, not the ship" as my own mantra. (With a couple of exceptions.)
