My Personal Favorite Top 5 Classic Fics

I both read and write all over the map, so my recs tend to reflect that variety. Following are five stories I have read and enjoyed over and over. Hopefully, you'll find something to your taste among these classics.

5. Niagara!Verse by [livejournal.com profile] rayne_y_daze.
A series of drabbles, set after Hell's Bells. Xander and Lindsey, both emotionally broken, develop a relationship. This doesn't seem to be a pairing that is often written, but [livejournal.com profile] rayne_y_daze makes it work.

4. It's Got to Be Perfect by Speaker-to-Customers.
Buffy makes a wish to turn Spike into the perfect boyfriend, but there are definite consequences, of course, all done in the inimitable [livejournal.com profile] speakr2customrs' style.

3. The Watchers' Diaries: The Apocrypha by Caro.
Takes place in Post-Wrecked in S6. Giles has returned to Bath, and is again working for the Council. He receives a letter from an old "friend"/nemesis in Sunnydale. A correspondence between Giles and Spike begins, keyed to the episodes as they aired, and also includes scenes from both Giles' and Spike's lives not seen in canon. This fic has everything - plot, characterization, and it's just plain neat.

2. Rodeo Series by Crazydiamondsue.
Xander. Angel. Gay cowboys. Before "Brokeback Mountain" captured the public's interest, [livejournal.com profile] crazydiamondsue did it better - and much hotter. Caution: You may need to take a cold shower after reading this series. *g*

1. Amnesia!Spike by Mahaliem.
Set in S6. Spike loses his memory and hilarious consequences ensue. This fic may be the funniest thing I've ever read, and I've read it alot. I love the characterizations, and it hits just about every major ship in the 'verse, in a humorous, twisted, very funny way. I love this fic!

Wow, I've only read two of these (one and four). Thanks for posting this list.

That's always a handy thing :> I hadn't heard of the third one yet, but it sounds like a great idea.

Psst, this needs cut-tag!
elisi: Edwin and Charles (Fanfic by kathyh)

You rec'd The Watcher's Diaries! *dances* That fic was what pulled me into this shiny world of fandom. I'd read a couple of fics, nothing special, and was thinking to myself that this fanfic thing was obviously not worth bothering with. And then I found Caro and that fic in particular. And was blown away. It ought to have a shrine or something.

(Also adore Amnesia!Spike to distaction! And yes, I also think it might be the funniest fic ever. 'Tis perfect!)

I've just been to read
Amnesia!Spike
- you're right, it's a truly wonderful fic - funny, yet with spot-on voices. And I love the twisted homage to all the ships! Thank you so much for the rec.

I've only three of the five recommendations you offer (1,3,4) -- and ALL of them are on my very short list of fics worth re-reading. Indeed, I've read them at least three times each. Tickled to see that someone else loves them as well.

Heh-- three of my favorites! Though the Xangle gay cowboys things sort of scares me... :D

Thanks for the recs! I read only two of them - It's Got To Be Perfect and Amnesia!Spike - and I agree that they're awesome. Will definitely read the rest.

I *love* Amnesia!Spike. I think that was one of the very first fics you ever rec'd to me, way back in the day. It's still one of my go-to fics. And hee - you and your affection for Rodeo. I kinda adore you, you know?

Hee! I still love Dawn kicking Spike to see if he's evil. "How 'bout now?"

Aw! It's own binder! I'd forgotten Icy Hot and desperation. Snerk. I love you, too, babycakes.
