5 fics that don't contain a Xander...
For the last couple of years I’ve challenged myself to do one classic recs post that doesn’t have a Xander in sight - which as most of you know is kind of traumatic for me. Here is this year’s list.
Untitled holiday ficlet by
brutti_ma_buoni is a Firefly/Georgette Heyer crossover. Two of my favourite Heyer characters, Damerel and Venetia take tea with Mal and Inara aka Mr and Mrs Reynolds. I’d say the ladies have the upper hand in this one.
Chicken Soup for the Soulless by
velvetwhip - Willow is sick and Spike is her unlikely nursemaid. This is pure schmoop and none the worse for that.
In Either Way, There’s Scotch by
drsquidlove, Giles contemplates his first few days on the Hellmouth.
If Strangers Meet by ruuger is a really interesting fic in which a young Giles is shipped off to New York to help Nikki Wood’s watcher because the slayer is being stalked by a mysterious, peroxide-haired vampire. This is a really intriguing premise and is mostly gen - there is slash at the end, and I admit, I didn’t quite believe that turn of events, but it’s a minor gripe in a fascinating story.
In The Time of Wolves by
valyssia is a beautiful look at Willow in the wake of Joyce’s death.
Phew, I did it...

You are of course totally welcome to think of mine as a prequel to some other story where Giles and Xander hook up.
