5 Favorite Buffyverse Fanvids (Gen/Buffy-centric)
All of these are Buffy-centric and/or "gen" vids that remind me why I love the Buffyverse, and Buffy Summers, so much. The same superlatives applies to each of them: presenting ideas, themes or arcs in the verse in new or unusual ways; excellent editing to the beat, rhythms, mood and lyrics (as applicable) of the music; matching visual movements from one shot to the next. Listed in alphabetical order by the vidder's screenames.
"Buffy the Vampire Slayer Tribute Trailer" by Afterthebattle - Finished in time for International Women's Day 2013. I've seen a lot of so-called "epic btvs vids" but this one truly is epic; set to a remix of Ennio Morricone's "The Ecstasy of Gold".
"Once" by Afterthebattle - Unusual in it's focus on Buffy's relationship with Dawn, who gets more "screen time" here than any character save Buffy.
"Die Young" by
kaydeefalls - another meta vid about violence in SDHS, Seasons 1-3 that is both funny and dark.
"Buffy Summers, A Tribute" by MrMorda898 - Somewhat similar in feel and quality to Afterthebattle's tribute trailer but more Buffy-centric.
"It's Not My Time" by MrMorda898 - Another gen tribute trailer from MrMorda but the upbeat title song by 3DoorsDown gives it a very different feel from the other vids on this list.
(One caveat: I'd love to see all vidders remember to include the song credits (title and artist) as the music used is very often new to me.)

The vids by Afterthebattle are the ones I've watched most often (dozens of times, at least), in part because I found them earlier. (Once is one of my favorite ever buffy character studies along with

*nods* Ten years ago when I was into Moulin Rouge fandom, fanvids were the #1 way I discovered new-to-me artists and songs, and that's still true w/Buffy vids as well. (Including instrumental pieces.)
Considering the fact that song selection is half the video, basically, I'd think that giving full credit would be common sense. (When I edited some short films/videos in college, we couldn't make a single cut until we had the music picked out to pair with the images. Music plays a part in the structure, story, shot selection, mood and tempo.)
Sorry for the rant-y. It's a thing with me. (But then again proper credit to artists and writers regardless of medium is a thing with me, period.)

Not necessarily - Afterthebattle's vids being a case-in-point.

This is also true of art (including icons, etc). I find tumblr extremely confusing because many times someone is "reblogging" someone else's work and you have to notice the tiny link to where they got it from, which may not even be the original creator's blog etc etc....Imagine having to do that with fiction.
Somewhat OT -When my sweetie got back into art, I had to nag her for the longest time to SIGN HER WORK (painting, sculptures, drawings etc). Even now it's the last thing she does and sometimes it's barely visible. I kept reminding her that the history of art is filled with women's creative works being appropriated by and credited to male artists. (Even going back to elementary school when we were taught that "cavemen" painted "cave art", that all works by so-called "primitive peoples" are presumably created by men.
ETA: Thank you for putting up the tags btw! What does "recruiter vid" mean in this (fandom) context?

I tend to think of those sorts of videos as just "tribute videos" but then I can't imagine wanting to watch one of these vids w/out having seen the show first. (Spoilers, and all that jazz.)
