Five things that could easily have happened

I always love fics that manage to take what actually happened on-screen and give it a more-or-less subtle twist that completely changes everything. So here's five canon rewrites I really enjoyed in 2007.

Braids by [livejournal.com profile] ubiquirk is one of many great fics to come out of the [livejournal.com profile] dawn_all_along ficathon, this one taking on "Passion." Guh. (Gen, PG13)

All We've Lost by [livejournal.com profile] snowpuppies turns "This Year's Girl" even messier, angstier and, well, pornier. (Buffy/Faith, NC17)

Character by [livejournal.com profile] nwhepcat takes on "Earshot" – what if Faith had happened upon the telepathic monsters instead? Deliciously dark. (Faith/Wes, NC17)

As You Were +1 by [livejournal.com profile] elisi not only makes sense of "As You Were", but also manages to be both funny, sexy and angsty. (Buffy/Spike/Angel (non-slash), R)

And finally, just to add some pure crack to what turned out to be a fairly dark rec list,, No One Defies Chuck Norris by [livejournal.com profile] boy_named_susie adds exactly what "You're Welcome" needed: a happy ending, Angel as a dork, and roundhouse kicks. (Cordy/Angel, Cordy/Chuck, R)

Yes - I too love the authors who can twist the story we already know - but hadn't seen any of these - Thanks for the list

Thanks very much for the recs. If you like them, I'm sure they'll be well-worth reading.

Thank you lots and lots for the rec! I'm all tongue tied and stuff - esp re the 'making sense' part! :)

Haven't read any of the others, but if I find the time I'll certainly try - they all look fascinating!

What I also love about this list is the various prompt/ficathons that the fics were written in response to -- those events certainly help keep people writing!

I came looking for an old B/A/S story that crossed over with Firefly (which I still can't find, so if that rings any bells ...), and I saw this. Thank you so much for the rec! I'm gobsmacked!
