Happy 2006!!
Welcome back! Hope everyone had a good holiday. Now that everyone is past the holiday indulgences and verging back into what-passes-for-normal mode, we'd like to make a bit of a refresher post for anyone joining us in progress and also make an announcement some of you may have been waiting for.
Probably the hardest thing about putting together the lists is the date range and we get that. However, Top 5 will remain about 2005 material only for several reasons. The main one is that we want to encourage diversity. It's easy to recommend your very favorite works of all time because you remember them well. It can lead though to a lot of rec duplication and not stretching a bit to find that 4th or 5th item that has slipped your memory. We think those who have been following up on the different recs here have probably come across material they had either forgotten or which they have been happy to discover. So we want that to continue.
However, like anyone else, we also would love to rec material that falls outside last year's time frame. Since we've been getting some positive feedback about Top 5, we would like to open it up again for a Top 5 Classic Recs Weekend from midnight October 28 to midnight November 1 of 2006. For four days we will be taking recs from any time period prior to 2006. We will also be opening up a new Wish List a week beforehand for people to comment on their hoped for categories.
In the meantime, Top 5 2005 runs until January 31. If you're coming up with some earlier recs in your listmaking, start saving them now for our Halloween posting period. And if you're having trouble coming up with lists at all, take a look at our FAQ page where we've offered some suggestions or browse the Wish List for 2005.
