I think that Dawn is one of the most interesting characters of the Buffyverse if written well. Here are five authors who've managed that feat. Three femmeslash, one het, and one gen.
Dawn in Rome
Creator’s Name:
rozk
Rating: NC-17
Why I chose this: While it's slash, it's also funny, and has a wonderful take on Dawn's attitude to life. Slightly futurefic in that Dawn is over the age of consent. It's primarily a Dawn / Kennedy ship (and yes, it works well), with a Six Feet Under crossover in the mix.
Kindred Spirits
Creator's Name:
nwhepcat
Rating: R
Why I chose this: A very dark and extremely good take on the real nature of the Key and what it means to Dawn, set around a Dawn / Ethan ship.
Ten Things That Never Happened in the BtVS Fandom
Creator's Name:
booster17
Rating: FR13
Why I chose this: It's strange and VERY funny, asking the question "What if the spell that created Dawn had some unusual side-effects?"
Ten Years After
Creator's Name:
curiouswombat
Rating: R to NC-17
Why I chose this: It's futurefic, set ten years after Chosen. Dawn has learned something odd about herself, and turns to Spike as the person most likely to understand her situation. It's fun, occasionally explicit, and works pretty well. There's an unfinished sequel, Access All Areas which has been on hiatus for a while but was going very nicely when last updated.
Training Your Slayer
Creator's Name:
cdybedahl
Rating: NC-17
Why I chose this: Another Dawn / Kennedy ship - it's not a common pairing, but in the right hands it works pretty well. And sometimes gets fairly explicit...
